Portage County-area golf news and notes for June 12

Maren Seaholts of Kent earned 10th place at the Northern Ohio PGA’s Junior Section Championship held at Portage Country Club in Akron June 7-8.

Seaholts, competing in the girls 16-18 age division, fired a two-day total of 164, three strokes out of ninth place.

Other area players at the event were Sydnie Leavery of Kent, who earned 13th place, and Abigail Retherford, who was 15th among all of the girls in the northeast Ohio section.

Sydnie Leavery finished 13th at the Northern Ohio PGA’s Junior Section Championship.

Champion of the girls’ oldest age division was Madison Reemsnyder, also qualifying for the Jr. PGA Championship later this summer with the victory.

The boys’ 16-18 champion was Ryan Pamer of Hudson.

Madolyn Kost and Chris Pollak of Aurora were the girls and boys runners-up, respectively, in the 11-15 age group. Pollak had a score of 8-over par.

Liam Curtis of Kent and Max Devins of Aurora were fifth and sixth, respectively (15-over par and 17-over).

The Northern Ohio PGA Section Qualifier sends two boys and two girls to the National Junior PGA Championship July 12-15 at Kearney Hills Golf Links in Lexington, Ky.

Abigail Retherford finished in 15th place at the Northern Ohio PGA’s Junior Section Championship.

Pfeiffer Scramble at Windmill Lakes

The 26th Richard Pfeiffer Golf Scramble will tee off at Windmill Lakes Golf Club on Saturday.

The event is held in memory of former golf coach Richard Pfeiffer and benefits the Kent Roosevelt golf team, Kent Roosevelt DECA, the Richard Pfeiffer Outstanding Senior Golfer Scholarship, cancer research and local charities.

The entry fee includes golf, cart, catered lunch, beverages on the golf course, dinner at The Overlook Restaurant at Twin Lakes and gifts for each player.
