Maren Seaholts of Kent earned 10th place at the Northern Ohio PGA’s Junior Section Championship held at Portage Country Club in Akron June 7-8.
Seaholts, competing in the girls 16-18 age division, fired a two-day total of 164, three strokes out of ninth place.
Other area players at the event were Sydnie Leavery of Kent, who earned 13th place, and Abigail Retherford, who was 15th among all of the girls in the northeast Ohio section.
Champion of the girls’ oldest age division was Madison Reemsnyder, also qualifying for the Jr. PGA Championship later this summer with the victory.
The boys’ 16-18 champion was Ryan Pamer of Hudson.
Madolyn Kost and Chris Pollak of Aurora were the girls and boys runners-up, respectively, in the 11-15 age group. Pollak had a score of 8-over par.
Liam Curtis of Kent and Max Devins of Aurora were fifth and sixth, respectively (15-over par and 17-over).
The Northern Ohio PGA Section Qualifier sends two boys and two girls to the National Junior PGA Championship July 12-15 at Kearney Hills Golf Links in Lexington, Ky.
Pfeiffer Scramble at Windmill Lakes
The 26th Richard Pfeiffer Golf Scramble will tee off at Windmill Lakes Golf Club on Saturday.
The event is held in memory of former golf coach Richard Pfeiffer and benefits the Kent Roosevelt golf team, Kent Roosevelt DECA, the Richard Pfeiffer Outstanding Senior Golfer Scholarship, cancer research and local charities.
The entry fee includes golf, cart, catered lunch, beverages on the golf course, dinner at The Overlook Restaurant at Twin Lakes and gifts for each player.
Raffle tickets are also available for three different packages, including an all-expense paid trip to the Kingdom at Reynolds Plantation at Greensboro, Ga.; custom fitting for a new set of TaylorMade clubs, and a local golf tour package, including gift certificates for four to area country clubs.
Tickets for the raffle are $50 and limited to the first 200 tickets purchased. Winners do not need to be present to win.
Registration is $125 per person ($500 per foursome).

Goecke wins Northeast Ohio Amateur
The Northern Ohio Golf Association sponsored the 91st Northeast Ohio Amateur at Windmill Lakes June 5-7 with Tyler Goecke of Xenia earning the championship after rounds of 69-67-67 for a 208 that bested Michael Klaric of Peninsula by four strokes.
Monty Guest of Solon grabbed earned the championship in the senior division, carding rounds of 69-69-70 for a 208, two strokes ahead of Allen Freeman of Brecksville.
Portage County Senior Amateur competitors, Mark Borlin of Stow, Jim Durr of Silver Lake, Ed Marsinek of Ravenna and Lou Boarman took places 7th through 11th on the leaderboard, each carding three rounds in the 70s.
KRI Outing is a success
Thanks to the returning golfers and sponsors, the Katie Rae Iarussi Scholarship Golf Outing was again a success this season.
Starting with Charles Chevrolet, which sponsored the hole-in-one event and all the golfers, the event at Paradise Lake Country Club continues to raise money.
The outing included 36 foursomes.
The mixed first-place team included Eric Schlaubach, Brennan Schlaubach, Aaron Eads and Ali Eads, while the men’s first place was captured by Robert Budner, Jared Budner, Jimmy Clark and Logan Bratsch.
Proxy winners included Vic Marozzi, Ali Eads, Tom Tortorella, Joe Cirjak, Paul Durba and Sonny Tilden. Long drive winners were Tom Sisley, Tim Dolan, McKenzie Iarussi and Loris Marozzi.
The outing hosts also celebrated a special birthday for Paul North, a supporter of the event throughout his battle with cancer.
